It would help you to get a quicker answer/solution if you would post the info listed in the 'what to post' sticky at the top of the forum:
1. Your location 2. Your ISP name and type (cable, DSL, wireless etc) 3. Upload and download speeds 4. Modem make and model 5. Type of Vonage adapter used ie RT31P2 or PAP2 6. Setup of Network ie Modem---->Vonage Adapter-->PC 7. Issue you are experiencing ie dropped calls, choppy audio etc 8. DETAILED results from www.testyourvoip.com with a test call to Boston.
To help isolate where the problem is, I'd start from scratch with the simplest configuration of Modem, RTP, Phone and see what that does, introducing addtional elements one at a time to see the effect (WRT, Hawking).
Do the above referenced www.testyourvoip.com again and make sure your the problem isn't with your ISP (packet loss comes to mind as a potential), although you mention getting 4.4 and 4.3 scores, which is as good as it gets.
I'm sure others here can bring their RTP expertise to bear as well. |
Chris, Thanks for all your help, but I talked to Vonage's advanced support and they said they're going to send me another RTP300.
Quick question, without the Hawking device attached, my upload speeds are 322k, however, with the Hawking my upload speed is about 316k. Is it normal to have your upload speeds go down when you have the hawking attached? |

The difference in upload speeds you note are very minor and I wouldn't worry about it. It is probably a consequence of the Hawking processing the data stream to ensure QoS on the Voip traffic (and other real-time dependent traffic like gaming, etc). I rarely get the same exact upload speed on successive tests with any configuration I've had. |

Instead of getting a RTP300, Vonage sent me a Motorola VT2442. I hooked it up and got the same exact problem, every time I click on a webpage the voice on the other line gets garbled. I ran test your Voip, and it came back with 4.4 and 100 % codec with no loss periods.
It's strange it can't be any of my routers, and I can use bittorrent and talk on the phone at the same time without any trouble.
I'm going to send back the VT2442 and keep the RTP300 since that's not the problem. |
