I had Sprint for local MCI for LD. Both accounts are closed. My number ported five days ago. Yesterday, I called home and got the "we're sorry, this number has been disconnected etc.." I caled back again and got the same thing - then the third time it went through.

Today my wife told me this happened to sveral of her freinds and family over teh past few days, intermittantly getting a "disconnect message."

Anyone heard of this? I searched and couldn't find the answer.

Any help would be appreciated. Although this isnt a factor, I have

wrt54g router
rtp300 routing functions disabled.

I think you need to call Sprint and talk to them about this. If that doesn't get you anywhere, then you'll need a session with Vonage customer service.

Since it's working intermittently, I'd say Vonage really owns the problem, but it's most likely a setup issue on Sprint's side.

Since you aren't a Sprint customer any more, it's unlikely you'll get them to help out, but as Steve suggested, it's probably worth calling them anyway to see if they will resolve it for you.

As someone who has worked with Sprint very close I can almost bet the problem is with the translations in the Sprint switch. I have seen this before with ported numbers. I know a business that switched to another local phone company from Sprint. When they ported the number the calls worked from all other locations (bellsouth, verizon) but not from Sprint. So if you had a BS phone you could call the business but anyone with a sprint phone (in the local area) the call would get a message. The problem is that the local sprint CO never correctly worked the port order. So anyone calling from Sprint is being routed to a disconnected number instead of being routed to Vonage. Having worked so closely with Sprint it would not surprise me if this was an intentional "accident" on the tech's part that worked the order.

The best thing to do is have someone in your local area with a Sprint phone call the customer service and place a trouble ticket with Sprint for a number they can not call. They should clear it up fairly quick.

I have a similar problem. I had 2 Vonage lines but switched one of them to another service. The other day I was testing the line and called it from my Vonage line. I received a message telling me the number was disconnected. But my cellphone was able to get through. I had 2 other people try to call me using their Vonage lines and they got the same message. Non-Vonage lines get through OK. Is this the Vonage Revenge for leaving? The reason I left is the other service let me have a Wifi phone without having to start a new account with a new phone number. In fact I have the Wifi phone, a phone adapter, and a softphone all sharing the same phone number (only one device can be active at once) resulting in a $20 phone bill instead of a $60 phone bill.

The behavior that you describe is the same as that described above for Sprint - your number was listed as ported in the national databases, but not in the Vonage servers themselves. The result is that anybody coming in via long distance goes to your new provider, but anyone coming in over Vonage gets the disconnect message, since Vonage apparently does not check the database for numbers that it considers its own.

The solution is likely the same as described for Sprint - call them from a Vonage line and tell them that you can call the number from anything other than Vonage.

As far as accidental or not (for both Sprint and Vonage): You should not confuse incompetence with malfeasance.

Gee let's see my old number was ported on April 11th and ever since then I cannot receive incoming calls.

I called my old phone company they gave me the name of who the number was transferred to so I called them. I was told they were waiting on paperwork from Vonage.

I called Vonage. They say they are waiting on paperwork from them. I tell support that I had already called them and they are waiting on them. Vonage says will resend/escalate the call.

Well 11 days later with calls to Vonage and their partner and both are still waiting to hear from the other to finalize the deal.

I am running a small business out of home and probably have lost at least $1000 in business.

What a crock. As soon as this is straightened out I am dropping Vonage and will never suggest them to anyone. Back to overpriced but reliable AT&T.

Trust me I am not confusing anything. I have worked in both CO's and with outside plant people on a first hand basis. I have witnessed things from service tech's breaking something Friday afternoon so they would get OT on Saturday morning to switch guy's bouncing T-1's every hour for a call center that pissed him off. So like I said, it would not surprise me if the CO tech who worked the port order purposely failed to update the LRN table so the calls processed through his local switch were not routed correctly. Now, could this have been a mistake? Possible but not probable.
