The past week I have been unable to connect to the router. It worked a few times, but on the Vonage setup in the router it said unable to connect. But now I can't even access the router at all. My setup is 1 nic to linksys router, router to Net&Sys(mng-2005) cable modem, and a panasonic phone to the router's phone jack. a direct connection between the modem and pc works fine. add the router that Vonage sent me, and nothing works. the internet light on the router and the pc light on the cable modem flicker, but no access. im set to automatically get an ip address. when i put the the pc back on the router, it xp says limited or no connectivity...
It worked fine with this setup two weeks ago, dunno what changed. Thanks, Misuchan |

That sounds truly bizarre if it previously worked and now doesn't. You're absolutely certain that nothing changed? It just stopped working one day? Try this: power everything off and wait about 3-5 minutes. Connect things back up with Cable Modem --> Linksys router (what model is it, by the way?) --> PC. Plug your telephone into the phone 1 port on the router. Power on the cable modem and wait for the blinking lights to stabilize somewhat (the activity light will likely blink quickly). Now power on the Linksys router and wait for the internet light to go steady and (hopefully) the phone light to go steady. Now power up your PC and see if you can connect to the internet. If you still can't connect with this setup, before you unhook the router, get to a command line (Start-->Run-->cmd) and type "ipconfig /all" without the quotes and hit enter. Look for the line that says IP Address and let us know what that says and we can go from there. |

You say you can't connect to the internet, but can you connect to the router's administration page with the PC plugged into a LAN port on the router? If not, and assuming that you're using DHCP, I'd try doing a hard reset on the router. I believe the RT31P2 has a reset button that has to be held in for about 30 seconds. |

1) Reset then completely unplug everything including the modem. 2) Now power the rt31p2, then power the computer. 3) With just the rt31p2(lan1) > computer 4) Start/Run/cmd/ ipconfig/all 5) IP?
What country are you in? |

A 169.254.xxx.xxx is a Windows IP. It sounds like you have tried a few different things. I would try swapping out the ethernet cable from the PC to the router. I have seen ethernet cables do weird stuff before. |

This win IP is why I said to reset and unplug everything(no connection anyway)(bad cable or cable half way in socket). Replug item by item. If misuchan came back with a 192.x.x.x with just the rt31p2 hooked up then there is a connection and we can proceed from there. |
