I know the motorola unit has a built in router of sorts. Is it robust enough to handle multiple machines? Or do I need to put a linksys beind it, or it behind a linksys?
Thanks |

Thanks for posting about the warning letter, at least I don't feel singled out - see that your ID says "MN" - same location here.
If you have time, could you call Vonage CS to say this happened to you too? They said it's impossible if the ATA is installed after the cable modem.
I don't know enough about how it all works, but you'd think this is more Comcast's problem - if they weren't allowing two IPs to get through, it wouldn't be a problem, right? I wonder if after May 11th (if that was the date on your letter too), it will work? Vonage CS says that the ATA is supposed to route whatever IP it gets to the router, which in turn will manage it. |

Put the moto box behind the router and plug your PC into an open port on your router.
This way, if the moto box **** itself,it won't take your internet connectivity with it. |
Any particular ports I need to open, or does the moto box initiate all the connections? |

I think they are thinking you have a router

not all moto failure modes result in a loss of internet connectivity.
yesterday, I had a fast busy.
did an HTTP reboot on the moto.
never lost internet connection while i had a fast busy. |

I have used the Moto with more than one PC as long as the Moto has NAT turned on. Currently, mine is between the cable modem (RoadRunner in Minneapolis) and my DLink wireless router. It has been working just fine since the Moto software was upgraded to 1.16d. It is now at 1.16e and performing well. Previous to 1.16d software, I would not have recommended the Moto be in front.
The advantage of having the Moto ahead of the router is that the Moto's QOS can work.

How do you check that? |

I plugged a switch into the PC port of the Moto and then plugged 2 PCs into the switch. Both PCs worked. But, the Moto had to be in NAT mode because my ISP (RoadRunner) will only give 2 IP addresses.

That's where mine is too, I'm feeling much more hopeful now.
Thank you everyone for helping me figure this out. Going to call Vonage tomorrow and they're going to try to debug the voicemail thing (no stutter). |
