Like many of the forum posters, I've had a poor porting experience with Vonage. Calls to support are useless as no investigation is ever performed and you're only given canned responses. Regardless, I've worked aggressively with my existing provider's LNP team and as of 3/22 they completed the port out. I've also been able to confirm that Vonage now owns the number according to:
http://nextelonline.nextel.com/NASApp/wnp/en/Action/PECLanding
However, I've had call traces performed and can confirm that if you attempt to call my number, Vonage releases on the call and you get whatever call treatment the calling provider offers for that condition. The result being that my old carrier no longer owns the number so I can't call forward and Vonage hasn't finished their work so I can't take incoming calls. When I call Vonage for support, I get no assistance. Does anyone know how I can get Vonage to properly finish the transfer so I can receive incoming calls? |

with regards to your questions, I can say that the vonage is a very good company. it happens that sometimes porting of numbers caused a little delay due to reason that the other carrier didn't released the number at once. at the same time, if the number is released, you still need to wait the porting process to be completed. and right after then you can make a complete inbound and outbound call. it's just every transaction needs a time to process. |

Good luck. Try having your number released to Vonage and them taking 43 days to complete it while during this time no one can call your old number and you're running a business.
Oh and if you get the idea to try to get you number back from Vonage and go with a different company you're really out of luck. I'm going through that right now.
UPDATE AUG 10TH
Vonage has finally released my number to SunRocket. Now comes the fun of trying to cancel my Vonage account. |

The number portability laws were written for landlines in 1996, and applied to wireless in 2003. Both make it clear that the federal goverment "owns" the phone numbers and assigns them (through the North American Numbering Plan Administrator) to the telco companies who hold them "in trust" for the benefit of the consumers. You might be better off raising these issues with the government rather than the telcos. Try filing a complaint with the Federal Communications Commission it can be done online at http://svartifoss2.fcc.gov/cib/fcc475.cfm . They are suppose to be enforcing the number portability laws and are write the rules. If you don't hear back from them, send letters to your federal congress person and senator. State public utility commissions are also sometimes helpful. |

To the original poster....
What happens when a PSTN/non-Vonage line calls your phone number? Does it go to a fast busy or a disconnect message? What happens when a Vonage line calls you? Does it connect without issue? Does your web account show the port as complete?
You may have an incomplete port. Simply call their LNP department and ask. They will create a work order to fix the issue. True it may take some time, but it will get resolved. Just make sure you are clear and you really need to get this resolved. |

I'm actually on day 9 of my nightmare.
I was told by my LEC that they ported my number to Vonage/Pay Tech on the 23rd of June but Vonage keeps saying that my LEC didn't release the number.
I've talked to the supervisor in the LNP department who gave me the confirmation number along with the PON number they need to complete my order.
I've called countless times to be told my problem will be escalated to another department and I'll be contacted in 48hours. The first 2 times I've not been contacted. I just called this morning so I have until Friday on this attempt.
I will keep you posted. |
