| Not to sound anal or like a nerd or anything, but I have all of the local emergency numbers written down next to each phone. Actually, on a sticker on each phone. (Very nerdy huh?). I also have them saved in my cell phone. It took all of maybe ten minutes to accomplish this one lazy Sunday afternoon. I may never need it, but it's there if I do. People need to take responsibility for protecting themselves. If 911 or e911 works, then that's just redundant icing on the cake. |
You forget that 911 does more than just connect you to emergency services. It typically gives them your address which just calling a direct line probably wouldn't accomplish. Also, it's much easier for a 4 year old to remember that she needs to dial 911 when mommy or daddy is lying on the floor than to try to figure out which of a half dozen numbers on a sticker is the right one. |

Yep, you don't have to be in sticksville to not have 911 service, and again the stickers helped but it's so easy to transpose numbers in an emergency. The long way can and has and is done, but there are reasons for the switchover. |

I know for a fact that Vonage does not put people on hold for 911 calls, and as a matter or fact Vonage does not recieve 911 calls to there offices. |
