W T F... I did a Voip check just before the call; to me was perfect, from me was near perfect (only source of loss was less than a tenth percent packet discard).

Then I had a call, it went fine until it dropped out of the blue...

I did another Voip check and got the same near-perfect results...

My setup: motorola cable modem 8 Mbps down/768 Kbps up -> WRT54GS w/ QOS putting Vonage router at highest by MAC addy->Vonage RT31P2, serving only Vonage phone/fax, no other services running.

Only other bandwidth consumption was a low-overhead VPN into the work network; no streaming, downloading, nothing...

W T F? What can I do? I believe my setup is as good as it can be without buying new stuff, but that probably wouldn't help because it appears the problem is server-side (Vonage). I used to think Comcast was filtering Voip, but it doesn't appear to be so due to the Voip testing... This is really really getting old <cancellation pending>

They are disabled. 'Anonymous Internet Requests', 'Filter Multicast', 'Filter Internet NAT Redirection', 'Filter IDENT' all are disabled, and have been ever since I put the WRT54GS in front. DHCP is disabled, all VPN passthroughs are disabled, no port triggering/forwarding, no DMZ or QoS or DDNS or NAT or Dynamic Routing, none of that. Just pure Voip, and it still is only slightly better than crap

No, from the global problems. I have Vonage for business, and I require that it function consistently at an acceptable level of quality during business hours. It does not- 1 dropped call (so far), but horribly inconsistent call quality, regardless of my setup/QoS. I have reviewed these forums thoroughly, and I believe I have done all I can do from my end. Vonage's attempt at customer service has made it clear that they are unable to do anything more for me. Consequently, I will probably have to spend more money to get reliability, which is what I require. POTS, here I come...

Everyone knows Vonage runs sweatshops in India where they pay you with 12-minute free calls. Now there is a huge black market where a 12-minute Vonage call can buy you 500 grams of curry, or 1 McYeastie. Who says it doesn't pay to work in an Indian call center?

Something's not right here... try disabling QoS and see what happens. Also, disconnect any other devices you have running besides the WRT54GS and the Vonage adapter.

While we're at it, do you have ports forwarded or anything like that going on? If you've got relatively simple stuff, do a factory reset on the WRT54GS. The WRT54GS shouldn't need any port forwarding when working with any of the Vonage adapters.

You say you're running a whole 8M/768 pipe for Vonage and it's not working?!? Something's definitely wrong. Vonage CAN even work over dial-up if you know what you're doing.

Try going to www.testmyvoip.com, and post the DETAILED results for a test call to Boston.

Yes, you've troubleshooted with Vonage, but the problem most likely isn't on their end and there isn't anything they can do to help you with your own internet provider.

As far as POTS 'reliability', that's up for debate. In this area, POTS is somewhat more reliable than cell, but nowhere near as solid as Voip.
