I have Timer Warner cable. The cable modem plugs into my F5d7230-4 wireless G router and then the phone adapter (VT1005V from Motorola) is plugged into that. Everything seems to be working good. I want to setup QOS though. I can't seem to find out the IP of my phone adapter. How can I do this, and is there anything to configure on the phone adapter?
I also just found a problem. My phone will ring but no it is not ringing. I can make calls, have a dial tone, but when I call my number the calls go right to voicemail and my phone never rings. HELP!

I'm sort of new here but I'm pretty sure that you want to set up QoS in your router, not in your Vonage adapter, since the other PCs are connected to the router and not to the Vonage adapter.

You have to connect a computer directly to the adapter to access the configuration pages (see page 18 and 19 in your manual).

If you're trying to set up QoS in the router, you should be setting it up based on the physical port that the adapter's connected to or by the MAC address ofthe adapter (probalby preferred). The IP address that the router assigns to the phone adapter could change over time so that's not normally the way it's done.

I don't believe the Belkin router supports any sort of QoS functions. I've not used a Motorola Vonage device, but I believe they have a QoS function within them, 'though I don't know how well it works. If you were to go that route, you'd need to connect your VT1005 between your modem and router.

Wouldn't that depend on his router setup?

OK, first off, the Belkin router you have does not support QoS. So you're pretty much out of luck there.

Second, as to your incoming problem, it certainly sounds like the router is blocking packets it should be letting through (inbound SIP notification packets, to be precise). Since the Belkin has no way to adjust that, and since having the Belkin out front really isn't buying anything for you since the Belkin lacks QoS, I'd put the VT1005 out front.

I believe the VT1005 is equipped with a passthru ethernet port, making it function as a primitive router, so you should just be able to power down your (I assume Cable) modem for a few minutes, plug the Cable modem into the Internet/WAN port of the VT1005, plug the Belkin's Internet/WAN port into the Passthru/PC port on the VT1005, and call it a day.

Modem -> VT1005 -> Belkin -> PC's
