So after 5 years Microsoft is going to launch a new operating system sometime after the holidays next year.
In the past I've always wanted to be one of the first to get the new system. I'm not feeling that way this time. My computer will be about a year and a half old when this system comes out. That's what I call "middle age" for a computer. I'll probably buy another computer which will have Vista operating system a year or two later.
I just don't see the sense of purchasing a new operating system. Anyone out there looking forward to this? |

Outside of businesses, I don't personally know anyone who goes out and buys an OS off the shelf. Not to mention that the system requirements for Vista are rumored to be a bit steep so going out and getting it to slap on some old PC not might be the best idea anyway. |

I heard the requirements are going to be steep as well. I haven't confirmed this, but it's rumored that a minimum requirement is a dual-core processor. |

This comes straight from PCWorld, they have microsofts recommendations in last months issue so I though I would post em here for you all. Bare minimum specs: 800 Mhz or faster CPU 512MB of ram directX 9 capable graphics processor 15GB of hard drive space Above specs is if you use none of vista's bells and whisles such as the aero interface. Below is the recommended specs for running vista with all the bells and whistles, keep in mind that these specs are JUST to run the OS so anything extra like gaming will take more than what you see here. 1Ghz cpu or faster 1 Gb of ram DirectX 9 compatible graphics card capable of supporting windows display driver module or WDDM for short and running 2.0 pixel shader and 32 bits per pixel. Oh and the same 15 GB hard drive space I believe only if this OS takes 15 GB then a 150 GB hard drive sounds about right to me.
Hope this helps, I will try and post any changes from here on out but if there are any it will likely be only to say you need an even better machine than whats here and I expect soon enough thats what we will hear. |

Personally, no one should ever have to buy an operating system. That's one of the perks I enjoy from Linux and its many distributions.
My PC, out of 16 in my home, is 1 of 2 PCs that have Windows only on it. The only reason why it isn't dual boot is because I have a small hard drive I don't want to mess with and I play all of my games on it. The other Windows only PC is a make and brake PC to teach friends/family how to use a PC. Everything else is Linux of some sort.
And aero is a waste of graphical programming. It's just flashing lights you can see through. My boyfriend has something like aero that takes a lot less processing power and has the same see through effect. So, I'm not impressed with Vista. Even though my PC would run it effortlessly, I'm in no rush to pay Bill for a known buggy OS. He can keep it. It took me nearly 6-7 months to get XP Pro to do what I wanted, so no upgrade for me. |
