i recently hooked up my xbox 360 to my network. i a linkysys wireless router connecting my computer to network and have the onage adapter hardwired to router. the pc connection on adapter runs to xbox360 i have tried to connect to the xbox using the media connect but the computer cannot find xbox nor xbox the computer. i have opened all appropriate ports on the router and still nothing. i have no problems connecting to xbox live with this set up. im wondering if the Vonage adapter isnt allowing the connection to be made and how i can check and change that... |

If I'm following what you've got set up correctly, what you have is two separate networks. And no, they can't see each other which is why your XBox 360 can't be seen by your Media Center PC. However, the XBox 360 can get to the internet just fine because it's using the Vonage router as its gateway. I have no idea why this works, but it does (I am a developer, not a network admin). You don't mention which ATA you have, but some people have reported success in making their ATA into a switch to handle situations like what you have (personally, I could never get the RTP300 to work). Natehoy has some articles on how to configure a network with multiple routers, you can search through his posts (he might have a link in his sig) or maybe he'll pop in here and chime in. My personal recommendation is to use the Vonage device as strictly an ATA. Forget that it even has LAN ports on it. Plug your XBox 360 into your main router and you'll be set. |
