I have a Verizon landline that I would like to forward to my Vonage number. If the calls are forwarded, do call waiting calls get forwarded too, or does the call get a busy signal or go to Voicemail.

I have both call forwarding and call waiting on my Verizon line.

Do you have voice mail on your Verizon line as well? Vonage has call waiting available, which you can turn on & off through your account settings on Vonage's website. I'm under the impression that Verizon doesn't limit you on the # of simultaneous forwarded calls, so the 2nd call would go over to Vonage as well.

Once the first call is forwarded Verizon has no idea what you've done with that call (did you talk for one minute or five hours or not answer at all). When the second call cames through it's just another call that gets forwarded. Whether you have call waiting on your Verizon line is immaterial - in fact if you're forwarding all of your Verizon calls to Vonage you might as well cancel your Verizon call waiting.

At the Vonage end the calls just show up as calls from the original number, with no indication that the caller had originally dialed your Verizon line. So it doesn't make any difference from that aspect either.

Just FYI:
I've just signed up with Vonage and added call forwarding to my Verizon account so I can send the Verizon calls to my Vonage number while we evaluate pulling the plug altogether. At the same time I cancelled my Verizon caller ID - the forwarded calls from Verizon still show up at Vonage with the original caller ID info. I wasn't sure whether that would work but I'm glad that it does.

Thanks pdhenry,

That's what I've been trying to do also. I was previously able to forward my Verizon phone to Vonage and when a second call came in, it would also be forwarded & I would get the call waiting tone.

For some reason it doesn't work anymore. Now when I forward the Verizon phone to Vonage, the first call gets forwarded & if a second call comes in while I'm still on the first call the second caller gets a busy signal. I spoke to Verizon and was told that everything was working fine with my call forwarding service, but I haven't gotten a straight answer from them on why the second call doesn't get forwarded.

I've also disconnected all my phones and equipment from their jacks and waited 5 minutes for the system to clear, but that didn't help either.

I also tried forwarding the Verizon phone to my cell phone with the same results as on the Vonage phone.

Any ideas?

Try the following:

Call your Vonage number directly, then call the number again from another phone. Does call waiting work?

Call your landline and let it forwared to Vonage, then call your Vonage number directly. Does call waiting work?

Call your Vonage number directly, then call your landline and let it forward to Vonage.

Call your landline and let it forward to Vonage, then call you landline again. I understand this results in a busy signal.

Go through the above using your cellphone in place of the ovnage line.

This will help you isolate whether it's Verizon or Vonage. So far it sounds like Verizon to me but Voip is PFM to me so I could easily be out to lunch here.
