This may be well known but it's the first time I've noticed it. I saw an ad on CNN for Earthlink Voip a few minutes ago. Yes, I know there are other Voip but this is the first I've seen advertised besides Vonage on a major network at the same price (24.95) as Vonage.

They did not mention any of the features that Vonage offers however like Caller ID or port your existing number.

I checked into this service since I use Earthlink Cable Broadband and they offer very good prices on bundled service. There were a few missing features that kept me from going with it, though.

First, no 7 digit dialing. I use this as a landline replacement and don't want to have to remember to dial 10 digits for "local" calls.

Secondly, no Voice Mail Waiting Indicator - no stutter tone or light on the phone, etc. Apparently, they had some issues with this service early on and disabled it.

That was enough to keep me away. They -do- offer Name on Outbound CallerID, though - and the price when bundled with Earthlink Broadband is very competitive ($40/mth for broadband and unlimited phone for 6 months, then $60/mth after that - cable broadband service is $43/mth here). If they can fix the problems listed above, it may be something worth considering.

Earthlink is also offering a different kind of Voip in some markets. It's something where all fo the equipment is located at the DSLAM - you just plug your phone into your house jacks like you would with a normal POTS service. It's $80/mth for unlimited along with 8mb/sec ADSL2. Not a bad deal if you need the bandwidth. It's only available in a few select cities right now, though.

Looks like they pretty much have what Vonage has, except they charge for Simulring.

"On the go? Add Enhanced Call Forwarding and route your trueVoice calls to up to 5 different numbers. Only $4.95/month."

They do offer caller-id block, 10 numbers, at no charge. Their website says they will support LNP.
