The DNS Proxy on the RTP300 and WRTP54G is generally pretty weak. This is a pretty common symptom of that, and it's a common problem with those routers (I have a WRTP54G).

When I went to do this myself and entered my RTP300's IP addy of in the URL window above, I couldn't access it. I kept getting the "Mywebsearch" page coming up or "page cannot be displayed."

Now I'm trying to figure out how the hell to access my RTP300, since I seem to be denied access to it.

Just a stab in the dark, but if you're using IE, make sure you include http://... Some versions of IE are stupid that way. But if you're running XP SP2...never mind (Gilda Radner/Emily Litella accent).

Yeah, I've got XP SP2, but my issue isn't accessing my router anymore; that's been resolved due to a "Duh!" revelation.

I'm again having problems with my Internet speed, specifically the upload speed. Check the thread I started on this a few weeks back.

OK. This means that the setting never made it from your RTP300 to your PC. Why? I don't know. But let's go through it again (only because you don't want to have to go through the pain of setting the DNS servers manually for every client that uses the RTP300, trust me. Been there. Wink ). Some devices, like ReplayTV, can't even accept manual DNS server addresses.

1. In the RTP300 (I'm assuming firmware 1.00.60) make sure that "DNS Proxy" is set to "Disable" on the main setup screen.

2. On the same screen, set "" in DNS1: and "" in DNS2: (I'm using different, but working, numbers to make sure your PC is taking the new settings).

3. Save the settings (click "Save Settings") on the router.

4. Reset your PC to "Obtain DNS Automatically"

5. Go to a command line and type "IPCCONFIG /RENEW" (or go into "Network Connections" in the Control Panel and right click on your network connection and select "REPAIR", which does basically the same thing).

6. Go to a command line and type IPCONFIG /ALL (or double-click on the connection in the Network Connections list, then click the "Support" tab and the "Details" button). Verify that your DNS Servers are now and

From there, you can keep using the 4.2.2.x addresses, or you can get your ISP's DNS servers and enter those. ISP-supplied DNS servers tend to be faster (since they are closer to you).

Okay, Nate, I did exactly as you suggested. Adelphia's DNS servers were and, and I have set them and set the router as above and reset my PC to "Obtain DNS Automatically", and all is well.

Much thanks to you (and others here) for your help.

Glad it worked out for you.

Comcast Cable (3m down / 256k up) -> Linksys BEFCMU10 v2 (DOCSIS 1.0) -> WRT54G v4 ("Tomato" firmware) -> the rest of my network including a WRTP54G (Firmware: 5.01.04)
