I have a Linksys RTP300 hooked up after my Surfboard Cable Modem. From there, it goes to the telephones and also to my SMC7004VWBR wireless router. While I finally have better phone quality when things are running, for the past 2-3 months I have been resetting routers galore at least daily as I lose my internet connection for no apparent reason. I can be online searching, get up for lunch and when I come back the connection has disappeared. Rebooting the computer doesn't help. Every once in a great while, it has reconnected by itself again but that is rare. More often than not I am resetting at least the wireless router if not the whole system. Any suggestions? Someone suggested that I give up the wireless router which would work but I don't want to string wire throughout my house to the computer which is upstairs and on the other side of the house. Thanks |

Why not connect the modem to the Wireless router, then connect the RTP to the wireless router? The RTP isn't a very good router, and I think you're seeing that. Try flipping the setup and see what happens for you. Let us know what you experience with that. |

I have tried that setup in the past, and although it's been awhile I believe that when I try that, I lose my internet. I'll go try it again and let you know.
So, if RTP is so bad, why is Vonage giving it out when you sign up? |

Are you using a 2.4 GHz cordless phone with your Vonage service? If so, that can cause odd problems with the wireless router.
The RTP300 isn't all that bad for most of us with modest needs, but it isn't made for heavy duty traffic. If your wireless is a good solid unit with good QoS capability, then putting it in front of the RTP and using QoS to favor the phone service can save you problems later, as Dave indicated. |

Thanks. I switched the 2 routers and so far no problems. I know that I had tried this set up before with problems along the way, but I'll keep my fingers crossed! |
