Wondering if I can find some help here...

No dial tone, no phone lights after hours on phone w/ Vonage techs. I'm using a PAP2 adapter bought from Amazon, mac address is registered with Vonage, only power and ether lights are constant. No phone lights - no dial tone. Internet works fine.

Tried the configuration of modem --> PAP2 (bypassing router). Same result.

Tried hard resetting the PAP2 - not sure if i did it right though. Same result.

I'm stumped - and it appears as if Vonage is too. But their system won't allow me to swap the device at the moment. I wonder if I should just go buy another PAP2?

I'm afraid you won't get much response to this, since you've already done the right things- including calling customer support. What did they say? Your suggestion that you should swap PAP2s is reasonable. If you have a friend with broadband, you might also want to try hooking up to his system.

I bought a new PAP2 today. Called in and registered the new MAC address. It's now been about 3 hours and neither the Phone 1 or 2 lights come on.

Vonage tech's tell me to call Comcast to see whether they need the mac off the PAP2...so I called them. Comcast says no, and that they can't support Vonage.

I'm getting the run around here - and don't know what else to do. Any advice?

did you change any setting on the mr814 from factory?
try disabling the radio(wireless). AdvancedWirelessSetup/ uncheck WirelessAccessPoint.
try disable SPI.
try disable UPnP.
Is the power led red or blue on the pap2?

From the book: Pick up the telephone. Press 80#. Hang up the telephone. Wait approximately 30 seconds. Then pick up the telephone; you should now have a dial tone.

Did you setup Port Forwarding on the MR814?
To setup Port Forwarding they want you to statically assign an IP from the MR814 to the PAP. So, on the MR814 go to the Lan IP Setup/ Address Reservation page/ The PAP should already be there, just highlight it/ ADD. This IP is what needs to be assigned to the PAP statically. Then, you must specify that four port ranges be forwarded to that IP address of the PAP on the MR814. Port Forwarding/ Add Custom Service/ Just put in the last octet of the PAP IP/ Add. Enter these four port ranges are as follows: 5060-5061 (SipUDP), 53-53 (DnsUDP), 69-69 (UpgradeUDP), 10000-20000 (VoiceUDP). I think you will have to do each one as a separate service. Just use the word in () as the name of each.

Now just Disable the DHCP on the PAP; And assign it the address from the MR814 you just added.

Then reboot in sequence.

There is a chance the router needs the boot. (a new one)
I noticed there is no selection of the type of traffic(protocol) thru the port. This is a good reason if forwarding doesn't work to try the PAP on someone elses system with hopefully a newer router.

I did everything described in the last post (assigning a static IP, port forwarding, etc.) and the damn service still does not work.

I reverified that they have the correct MAC, they do.

The PAP2 displays the power and ethernet (both solid blue), but the phone 1 or 2 lights never come on.

I'm ready to give up and request a refund - which really is going to cause a headache because I've given out the phone number to key clients and vendors.

Do I have any other choice?

That's ridiculous advice from tech support. I'd call again and demand to be referred to tier 2. If that doesn't get some decent support, then call the business office and tell them that you either get immediate support or Vonage loses a client.

Was this one from amazon a new one? retail or oem box? Confirm with V that the number has never been assigned before; If that's possible to confirm. If an account was ever opened, even if the box was unopened, the device and V will give you problems that V can fix if there willing.
