Just received my MTA today... plugged it into my Linksys router, set it up for a static IP address, forwarded the ports, and went to town! One problem... as I was putting it through it's paces I noticed the stutter dialtone didn't work. Called a tech at Vonage who told me that my new devide needed to be rebooted three more times (I had already rebooted it three timre prior) so that it could receive SIX firmware upgrades. Well, that didn't solve the problem so I called back... they put my box in diagnostic mode and he called and left a message, and told me that my box didn't receive the MWI signal and he has sent the ticket to their engineering department to have them look into it. My impressions so far:

1) Initial setup is easy (even for an advanced network as I have at home),
2) Tech support is OK, they answered right away and only had me on hold briefly,
3) I am surprised that a NEW piece of equipment that was probably configured seven days ago at Vonage needs SIX updates at once.

We'll see how they are at fixing my stutter dialtons issue.

An update to the above...

I tried connecting the MTA directly to the cable modem. Just for kicks and giggles to see if stutter dialtone works. It still does not.

Anybody know offhand which port is used for MWI notification to the MTA?

Today, got this email from Tech Support:

Thank you for contacting Technical Support. Our engineers have made necessary changes which resolves the issue you were experiencing with voicemail. Your voicemail should now be functioning normally.

Well, it still wasn't working. Replied and told them. Then tonight, got this email from them:

Thank you for contacting Technical Support. Currently we are
experiencing issues with voicemail system. This is causing delays on
getting stutter tone and email notifications. Our engineers are
working on resolving this issue and this issue should be resolved by
tomorrow afternoon. Until that time your stutter tone and email
notifications might be delayed or you may not receive them at all.


Then looked at the phone, and the message waiting light was flashing. Picked it up and heard the stutter! Amazing. And the light and stutter tones update IMMEDIATELY after deleting messages on the website. OUTSTANDING!
