I would like to upgrade to this router, but wanted to know if they have resolved the QOS issues I have been hearing about. I work from home and need to be able to be on the phone while uploading files without issues. I am currently using a RT31P2 and it does a good job of QOS. I can be uploading a huge file and talk on the phone with no issue. I am a Comcast customer with a 512k upload. A family member of mine got the WRTP54G and can’t hardly talk while uploading files. After poking around the net it appears there is new firmware available but it is not a public download. I am used to taking care of my own firmware and would prefer it that way. Does Vonage have to install this remotely and are there any ways to get your hands on the firmware files?
Thanks |

I am also a Comcast user, upload speed of 384k. I was having the exact same problem; unable to talk while uploading files; constantly breaking up on the other end.
I first upgraded from a D-Link DI-624 to the D-Link DI-634M, which has MIMO technology as well as the Ubicom StreamEngine chip. It supposedly automatically prioritizes Voip, but guess what, it didn't work at all. After more research, decided to try the D-Link DGL-4300. It actually is marketed as the Gamer's Router to end lag, but it works great with Voip. It uses StreamEnging as its QoS, but it is 100x better than the 634M's version. It is capable of 265 priority levels. I set it up to always give Vonage 1st priority. Works awesome! No breakup while uploading large files, 20MB plus. Also noteoworthy, my uplink quality with Comcast is not all that great. I would highly recommend this router. ZipZoomFly has it for $99 after rebate with free 2nd day shipping. The DI-634M is going back to Outpost today! |

Thanks, this looks like a nice router. I failed to mention that I need one with built in Phone ports. I already have a wireless router. I wanted to slim down to one device that did everything, but QOS is a main concern I have. Looking at this DLINK doesnt show any phone ports. |

You're right; no phone ports on this router. I use it with the Linksys RTP300 which I received free when signing up fo Vonage. The D-link router is connected to the cable modem and the Linksys to the D-Link. I was also looking to slim down to one device, but was not happy with any of the all-in-one solutions available. The quality of the setup for me overshadows the benefits of slimming down to one device. |
