Hi all,
I read a lot about people having problems with their ATAs, needing to reboot etc. I will be honest and say I really don't understand it. My ATA (Cisco 186) has been running since I got it:
October 19, 2003 - ordered Vonage service, received ATA within 1 week
November 30, 2003 - changed plan from unlimited to 500 min plan
March 5, 2004 - added 2nd line (basic 500 residential)
March 20, 2004 - added (800) number
March 21, 2004 - added 2nd (800) number for the second line
The system gets used approx 500-1000 min of international calls to Europe and Asia per month. (The average cost is approx. 4 cents per minute). Calls within the US are limited, say 100-200 min per month. Add another 250-500 min of incoming calls.
I use a Bellsouth DSL (downstream 1.5Mbps/upstream 256Kbps), a Belkin router F5D7230-4 (updated firmware 4.00.03), and the ATA is connected behind the router. The router has activated NAT, and no extra ports had to be opened.
My router has been stable since Oct 19, 2003, I am not aware of any reboots, have not experienced any connection problems, all in all I am one happy camper.
Take care,
Max. |

Moto,
I got the MTA about a month and a half ago and have had some minor issues with the service, but I would say that so far the positives outweigh the negatives. About a month ago, we were having frequent disconnects, then lost the caller-id service but Vonage was able to provide firmware upgrades that took care of these issues. However, now I am having some other issues that hopefully you may have some idea why this is happening...
Sometimes I cannot dial out - I just get a busy signal. Then If I try approx. a half hour later I am able to dial without issues. This is very intermittent, but I am curious. Could this be due to heavy network traffic at the time of the calls? I am not even online when I make these calls. Any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks... |

Thank you for the prompt response...
Should I reboot even though a Vonage tech hasn't sent an upgrade to the MTA device? |
