Went ahead and unplugged my router and re ran the tests.. Same results - packet loss with AT & T hops only.

I asked him if Comcast was doing anything intentional or specific to disrupt Voip, and he said this: "No way. I can tell you straight, Mr. NNNNN, that our own Voip succks, but we are definitely not blocking any Voip. The FCC has warned us about this. We're not about to do something that stupid. The issues we're having are technical ones, but I don't know the details about that."

The words I used above are his words, folks, not mine, BTW.

All in all, a very satisfying service call, the first on site one I have had to have since the service was installed 15 months ago.


Wild thought: I am going to suggest that the poor connections may be at both your old house and the new one.


If that turns out to be the case I will post it. Im pretty much exhausted from troubleshooting from the bottom up.. ( starting with calls to c.s. then transferred to techs then saying I will be charged if they find nothing wrong with thier lines)

So I am troubleshooting from Top down this time ( Executives from the Corporate Office )

In this article you can see Comcast aquired AT & T, in further reading you can also see how it states AT&T Broadband, which inherited outdated infrastructure from TCI, has historically seen low margins and low subscription rates for its advanced services such as digital cable and Internet service. It has focused heavily on improving its aging network for the last several years.

Im thinking the updated and improved infrastructure has not been finished yet. But the Registrant on the Domain name is AT & T so Comcast is responsible for contacting the AT & T domain to fix there congestion or whatever is making packet loss

I've been toying with the idea it is just that. I tend to think that may be why ATT abandoned this network but stayed in the business. They new from the little time they were here that it was outdated or at least poorly put together. Everybody with the service from TCI new the problems. Now look, back with DSL and SBC. How do they promote DSL with ATT and there own cable internet in the same marketplace? And now look at tracerts and pingplotters to vonage=> ATT networks are all slower than Comcast. ATT still has routers in the network while they are having ties(SBC) to traditional phone service...HMM. While that is possibly an issue, I think your immediate concern is still the local connections.

I'm no expert but, house drop to pole or next pole upline in neighborhood. Tech to house or multiple techs if necessary will possibly confirm. At least eliminate it from the possibilities. I wasn't going to speculate but improper grounding of the cable thru loose (windblown cable) or and wet connectors can make a difference.

hmmm well my isp techs informed me on other attempts to get this issue cleared up that if they come out and find nothing wrong with thier lines ect......... I will be charged. ( they did all sorts of tests over the internet.......signals ect on and on...... ) - Coming to the conclusion all was fine and dandy.

Soooo if I was certain that the packet drops from AT & T were not the cause of my Voip and video streaming ..dilemmas

I most certianly would slather my cables outside with some peanutbutter and let the squirrells go nuts.. Twisted Evil Just to avoid them Charges
