Do I use 2 wire for both lines or just use the 2 wire on the Vonage line. |
I think, if I understand the problem correctly, that your home telephone line has both lines 1 (inner pair) and 2 (outer pair) enabled with dial tone.
What you are trying to do, if this is the case, is to connect ONLY the inner pair of wires to your phone. Your house wiring is apparently set up to handle 2 lines, both with dial tone (and one with actual service) from the telephone company.
Using 2-wire patch cables is one way to fix it. It SHOULD be sufficient to only use one on the "LINE 1" jack of your Uniden, but I'd get two and use them for both jacks on the Uniden, just in case you ever decide to swap cables around or something. Better safe...
Removing the Telco's dial tone on the second pair by cutting the yellow and black cables in your phone jack or disconnecting the second line at telco access point is another.
Isn't technology wonderful? |

And wouldn't using the adapter that he has which separates L1 and L2 into individual jacks work as well. |

I guess I am full of dumb questions today. I unplugged the telco line completely from the Uniden 8866.
I left the links system RTP 300 pluged into Tel 2 on the base of the 8866.
Did a complete shut down of everything (cable modem and RTP 300) waited 15 minutes, restarted everything and the Vonage Line still does not work.
I am totally confussed now. I think I'll just go drink some green beer and forget about it.

Absolutely. If it fit into his phone. |

MMMMMmmm... Greeen Beeer...

Just for giggles, try plugging a plain, basic, stupid, simple phone into the RTP300. Your previous hookup with a live line on Line 2 of the Telco wiring (if it was live) may have fried the port. |

My point was to plug the adapter into the wall jack, then a four-wire cord going from the L1 on that adapter (thus only the 'middle' wires will be used) to the phone. |

Oh. Yeah. That would work, too. Good thought. |

Try the other port as I suggested above. See if that works. |

He might have fried the RTP300, depending on how long the adapter's wires were crossed with the telco & what sort of activity happened. I'd imagine a couple of rings would do a number on the adapter. (HEY LINKSYS, ever hear of diodes? Use 'em! I know it'd cost you an extra $0.001, but it'd keep quite a few adapters from reaching the landfills.) |

Great Forum I had the same problem with another two line phone. I use two individual line throughout the house to help prevent overload problems.
The individual phone lines plugged into the individual phone line outlets on the phone did not work, even though you would think it would. Line two was never available and sometimes I even had to reboot the router. Then I used the two line splitter as suggested here and plugged the single line out of the splitter into the LA1/LA2 outlet in the phone. Shazaam - it works perfectly. Thanks. Bobbo |
