I think the upshot to this is that (assuming you are still interested in a fix):

1. QoS has nothing to do with wireless, and certainly was not affected by your 2.4GHz phone or anything else, for that matter. If you don't have QoS tuned properly, it won't work on a wired phone either. Fortunately, with a WRT54G router (now that we know you have one), you can get QoS working:

http://vonage.nmhoy.net/qos.html

2. Giving the full story is important. Results from www.testyourvoip.com and more information about your network setup, including what Vonage device you have, what other routers might be involved, and the other information requested in the sticky thread at the top of the list entitled "WHAT TO POST WHEN YOU HAVE TECHNICAL TROUBLE WITH Vonage" probably would isolate the real problem.

3. Wireless routers and 2.4GHz telephones can and do interfere with each other. Of course, since no one knew that your cordless phone and wireless router had been coexisting for some time, it was hard to narrow down the problem as having nothing to do with your wireless phone or router. Especially since you specifically stated that was your problem, rather than giving any information necessary to figure out what your problem is. I'm not trying to cause offense - I'm trying to get you to help me figure out what is really wrong, so I can help you fix it.

Here are a few steps, if you still have your Vonage line and are interested in getting it working, then we need to isolate the exact cause for the poor quality audio. I and others would be happy to help you out, we just need to figure out what the problem is first:

Read the "what to post" sticky thread and post the requested information. This will give enough information to try and isolate the problem.

Get a wired phone and plug it directly into your Vonage telephone adapter. Try a test call. Does that make everything work well, or are you still having bad sound quality. If that makes everything work well, you have wireless interference on your cordless phone. Try changing channels on the cordless phone, or log into your wireless router and change channels on that. If not, then you probably have an Internet connection issue or your Vonage device is defective.

Ah, yes, some people still need someone to hold their hands when crossing the street. As far as "at no cost", that's only if it's their problem. If they find a problem with your equipment or household wiring, you better believe they're going to charge you for the service call. The "at no cost" also does come with a cost -- an extra $180/year, not including taxes, which will probably push that to about an extra $250/year. While $250/year is a drop in the bucket for me, I'm not about to pay it when I don't have to.

NateHoy,

I will again make this clear........... Vonage knew about the Linksys GA router, and the 2.4 Fez from day ONE. No one once told me to unplug the 2.4 and plug in a hard wired phone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Vonage overlooked this from day on and continued to tell me that my 2.4Ghz was fine. How much clear do I need to make it. You know as well as me that the Vantage support is terrible and way to time consuming.. Come on people have to come clean on this. 51 support calls to Vonage from November 16 2005, 603 min. 10.5 hrs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How would you feel as the average consumer?????????????????? Exclamation Rolling Eyes

This one wasn't aimed at me, but I can't resist...

How would I feel? pretty damn stupid to have spent 10.5 hrs troubleshooting an issue where I have two devices trying to run on the same frequency. I'm willing to bet you even had them sitting within a few feet of each other as well.

I can't help you with your problems with Vonage tech support. I may be able to help you with your problems with Vonage, if you still have the service and you are willing to give me enough information to do so.

The fact remains that your 2.4GHz probably is fine. Especially since it was a pre-existing condition before Vonage. If the techs knew that the 2.4ghz phones and router were already there, they probably didn't consider it significant. Neither do I, but you are insisting that the problem is 2.4 GHz and I'm trying to give you instructions to prove or disprove it.

Actual interference between 2.4GHz phones and 2.4GHz routers is really somewhat rare, and is usually easy to fix. But you still aren't giving me any information to determine if it's your problem.

I don't work for Vonage. I don't get paid by them. Neither does anyone on this board. If you want help, give me the information to help you and I'll do my best. That's why I and others volunteer on these forums.

If you just want to rant about their customer service, join the bandwagon and let me know so I can stop wasting my time replying to you asking for enough information to help you.

You bethcha! 4 feet from each other and Vonage the service provider said that was not an issue. I asked numerous times.

Are you Happy you figured that out so fast? I suggest you go replace most of the engineers and support. Perhaps then there would.' be so much bad stuff said about them everywhere.

Enjoy you fourm with vontage!!!!!!!

Bye

And if you had bothered to read the manual for your phone and/or Vonage adapter, it probably mentions to keep them apart from other radio transmitters.

I would change quite a few things at Vonage if I worked there...but I don't.

Enjoy paying an extra $250+/year for fewer features and less reliability than the rest of us are enjoying with Vonage.

Cheers.

Voip Better, Still No POTS
Keynote tracks reliability, call quality

Posted on 2006-01-30 18:59:15

A recent Keynote systems study (pdf) indicates that while Voip service quality and reliability have improved in recent months, Voip service still lags behind plain old telephone service (POTS). According to Keynote's press release, incumbents Time Warner and Verizon were tops when it came to reliability and call quality. Eleven leading Voip service providers were included in the study.

I guess you are wrong.

Ohhhhhh yeah he called them - as he keeps repeating here, 51 calls, for 603 minutes, which somehow in his convoluted math equates to 10.5 hours. I didn't know three minutes equals half an hour, but whatever.

Hope he likes his new Time Warner service. My sympathies in advance to their tech support folks, who will likely soon know him better than they ever hoped to! By the way, I think I know what his problem was. Its his hat - you know, the "2.4 Fez" that he mentioned. Lol

And, he keeps saying "Bye", but I notice he keeps coming back. Smile
