PostPosted: Thu Mar 16, 2006 3:39 pm    Post subject: NTL Broadband Ireland and WiFi Phone Reply with quote Back to top

Hello, I am currently in Dublin, Ireland using the Vonage wifi phone with DSL. The DSL upload speeds are too slow to handle conference calls and often normal phone calls. As a result, we're thinking of switching over to NTL broadband Ireland. Anyone in Dublin using NTL and a Vonage phone? If so, would appreciate any feedback you have on the upload speeds, sound quality, etc.

Thanks...Laura

as you said in your post, simply make sure there is sufficient upload speed with NTL especially with you are going to be making conference calls. there should be no problem using the wi-fi phone.

I don't know if you have ordered one but you can now get Dublin virtual numbers which will allow friends, family and business associates to ring you in Ireland for the price of a local call. You can add virtual numbers directly from your web account.

In the meantime, have a happy st patrick's day.

I would like to add just how wonderful these virtual numbers are:

So my 17 year old daughter meets a young man on myspace.com. He is from Dublin, of course we are in the USA.

So, as the story goes, my wife and half the family are now flying over to Dublin every other week.

So, I get a Vonage Dublin virtual number that rings on the home phone so this young man can call (un-limited, $9.99 per month) and while my wife is in Dublin I forward that number to my cell phone, so it is a local call from her hotel to me, wherever in the world that I may be.

Thanks for the replies. I also found out from www.boards.ie that there are others using Voip with NTL Broadband max and are getting decent upload rates. Keeping my fingers crossed and will order it tomorrow...Laura

Have been using the 1MB NTL broadband line from Dublin with Vonage for a year. When talking to numbers in Northern Ireland and the UK voice quality is excellent, however landlines in the Rep aren't so good and sometimes there is a bit of an echo, although just about usable. Forget ringing mobile phone numbers in the Rep quality terrible, surprisingly calling mobiles in the UK is fine ? I suspect it's Eircom evil doing, nothing to do with the broadband line.

PS. Get a virtual number for Ireland - so people can phone you locally.
