I have seen the sticky thread about how to hookup an alarm when your Vonage adapter is driving all the phone jacks in the house. I have a much more basic setup. I have an expandable cordless system, so I didn't bother hooking the Vonage up to my house jacks.
But I still want to hook up my Vonage to my alarm. So I bought one of those "extend-a-jack" things and hooked that up to my Vonage adapter via a splitter. I put the receiving end of the "extend-a-jack" thing in the closet with the alarm, and confirmed that it worked with an analog phone. So I figured I just needed to hook phone cord into it, and splice open the other end so I can wire it to the alarm. I understand that in a phone cord with 4 wires, only two of the wires (red & green) are used in a single-line system. So I just need to know what wire to hook to which terminal on the alarm.
I currently have the Green wire hooked to the "T" (Tip) and the Red wire hooked to the "R" (Ring) terminal, both of which are under the label "telephone line" in the alarm panel. Is that correct, or do I have them backwards? Then what do I do with the "T1" and "R1" terminals, which are under the label "premesis phones" in the alarm panel? I understand that these are to allow the alarm to disable all other phones in the house via the premesis wiring. Since I don't need that, I need to know what to do with these terminals. Do I leave them empty? Do I need to run a jumper between them to complete a circuit?
Thanks,
Mike |

You've got it right. Leave the T1 and R1 terminals open. No jumpers. |

I have confirmed a dial tone to the extend-a-jack thingy, and have hooked the phone wire up to the alarm panel as described, but it still doesn't dial the monitoring service when I set the alarm off. It had been working find with the land line. Any ideas? |

When you say that it doesn't dial the alarm service, what exactly do you mean? Does it try to dial and not get through? Does it not do anything at all? Are there any indications on the Vonage adapter that the system is trying to call?
What adapter are you using, by the way? Some, such as the RTP300, flash the phone light when a device goes off hook and is trying to make a call. |
