been reading way too many threads, and most of the threads involving RTP have been negative. I'd say about 1 out of 10 threads actually say that they have been ok for the past 4+ months by just plugging the router into the network and turning on the phone.
its amazing how the more technical we are, the more we want to tweak our phones, and the further away from our goal we get.
Then when someone who is not technical at all, just wants to pay 24 bucks a month, plugs the router into their existing setup, and the phones go on without a hitch for years...LOL. funny world.
Anyway, here is my thought for the day.
Would you say that :
The RTP is so bad at handling packets/dns/dhcp/and voice that its better to put it behind a good router with NO QOS? Basically bridge the RTP and only have a phone going to it, then the RTP will plug into the LAN SIDE of your good router?
Or would you rather have a bad router with QOS in front of your entire network, even though we are scared to allow it to push all network traffic through it?
I'm leaning more towards having my DLINK wireless 524 be number one in the network, put the RTP behind it, and only hook up a phone to the RTP. That means the RTP does one thing...VOIP.
Even if the dlink has no QOS. I still think it would work better because it can handle traffic better..
waht do you guys think ? |

For your situation, I agree as well. |

Ok, I NEVER give tech help, but as long as you guys are in on this...
I agree also.

Add one more vote to using the RTP300 solely as a voice adapter. Yeah, there's a QoS setting in there, BUT, I don't think anyone's ever had it actually work. Definitely put any other router you have in front of it....unless it causes problems for your Vonage connection. |
