Hi,
I have been a Vonage customer since April 2003. At that time, I was not charged for the adapter but was charged an activation fee and subject to a termination fee. For some reason I no longer remember, it was my understanding that the activation and termination fees actually represented the adapter cost so it wasn't really free, but that if at any time it died it would be replaced no problem.
Three years later, the TOS is quite different and I don't know how the new rules apply to me. In October my ATA died and I was sent a replacement adapter. I was charged $99 but when I called they credited the amount back to my account (but not my credit card, not cool!) They couldn't tell me why I was charged and so many things went wrong with the transaction that I can't speculate if I really was supposed to be charged or it was just a glitch.
What happens if this new adapter dies? Is it now subject to a warranty and I'm on my own if it dies after the warranty period? If I cancel service do I have to return it? I guess I'm no longer subject to a cancellation charge because I have been a customer for more than a year, correct?
I'm very confused and appreciate any help someone can give me. Thank you.

I feel that because they credited your account they satisfied the return abeit backhandedly. Over 4 months that 99 will be spent on service. I also feel that it being free (backhandedly) there would be a service commitment from now until commitment satisfied. Like in cell phones, get a new phone and a commitment. ps. I have no idea what the TOS says. Sorry. |

i think ur gonna get free adapters if they break as long as you didnt break them by misusing them. Think about it..... when they give out free adapters, they are keeping customers. If they were to charge bc of faulty equipment, they would lose customers, and lose money. Thats why when you sign up for service you always get the basic adapter free. When I signed up I got a linksys, and they are a really good brand. I dont see that going bad any time in the future. |

I am pretty sure I own my linksys adapter, I bought it at Best Buy.
I did get most of my money back from linksys by rebates.
I don't know who would replace my adapter if it would go bad, I suppose I would go to Best Buy and buy another one.
