Any known issues with porting a phone number from Vonage to a different VoIP provider? I'm thinking of switching to Speakeasy VoIP and wanted to make sure there aren't any issues on the Vonage side that would prevent porting my number. Any feedback is appreciated.

Is your friend's a Vonage issued number or did he port it in from the local telco?

I have heard that if your Vonage number is one that you ported to Vonage you should be able to port it from Vonage to another provider. If the number is one that Vonage assigned to you then it can not be ported away from Vonage.

This is all hearsay, just stuff I have read so I am not sure if this is the case.

No problems porting a number... Just make sure that after the port is complete you call Vonage and cancel. If not you will continue to be billed by Vonage even though you don't have a working number,
