Vonage only supports Vonage devices... which that Motorola isn't. You can usually find these at retail stores and they will specifically say they are for Vonage service. You can also get Vonage-compatible adapters from Vonage.com. I wish they'd let you use other devices with their normal plans, as I have some really nice IP phones I'd like to use, but that's the way it works, for now. Maybe they'll let you bring your own device in the future. I |

Dear All, We have got some Cable Modems Motorola SurfBoard Model SBV5120. We have not been able to configure the 2 phone lines en each device because there is not any option in the configuration menu. Those Cable Modems are working properly for Internet access but we require to use the Vonage Voip service using SIP on these two FXS ports.
Can you provide me a firmware upgrade or a procedure in order to configure these cable modems, please?
Motorola has not provided any answer yet... And we have not found any solution in the internet...
I really thank you all your suggestions,
Ed |

Please read the post just before yours....
Vonage supports Vonage devices. You may not bring your own device. You may not use your Vonage device for other SIP services. Vonage has customized the firmware of their devices and (as of right now) will only allow their own devices to log onto their network.
The ONLY exception to this (other than certain large business accounts) is softphones, which may be purchased as an additional line for about $10 a month. So, if you want to have lines on your external standard SIP device, you have to buy a basic Vonage line on one of their "locked" devices, then buy softphone lines (which are limited to 500 minutes/month each) for your SIP units.
Rumors had it that Vonage would be opening up SIP credentials, meaning you could use any SIP Voip device you wanted. So far, that is all they are - rumors. No action has been taken that I've heard of. |
