Voange Saids the Phone Adapter Converts Digtal to Analog. My Question is... is there a way to get the Phone Apater to Transmit in Analog Only?

Also.. what is the difference between *99 and a Fax Line?

I have been wondering also. Does *99 work on the Moto Boxes or is it just a Cisco thing. And what exactly does *99 do? I had to deal with trying to get my DirecTiVo Seriece 2 Box to talk to DircTV. What a nightmare. Mad Ended up having to use a exturnal modem. Anyways is there a way to get a MTA to handle Digital Data better? Question

The "box" converts your voice (analog) to digital to send it over the
internet.

The Vonage system receives the transmission, and converts the digital signal back to analog, for use on the regular telephone lines.

*99 is a Cisco ATA command and is unique for this ATA.

This forces the Codec on the next outgoing telephone call to utilizes G.711 irrespective of the current configuration. Your ATA will revert to the saved configuration for any subsequent telephone calls.

As the Cisco ATA does not support 'fax relay', it utilizes G.711 (full rate bandwidth codec) to transmit data from your fax machine.

Anybody else getting beeps that sounds like someone is hitting a button on the phone? I've been getting this, but the party on the other end never hears this beep. it's not call waiting. but it could be that these beep intrrupt the Tivo.

Hey Mike, bet you were talking to girls or children. High pitches set the tone off. It works both ways, just probily that your voice is too low to cause it to happen. Hope that helps.

So then your saying that I am just wasting my time using the *99 on a Moto box? Does the VT1005 need something similar? If so, can someone please tell me. I can't seam to be able to find any guides dealing with Vonage and star* numbers like *70, *77, *69.......

The Cisco ATA is fairly well documented as to it's control features.

Unfortunately, the Motorola Vt1000 information has been very sparse and lacking any detail on how to set any parameters beyond those on the internal web page.

Thus no idea how these get configured.

*99 works just fine on my Moto box. Vonage told me that the Moto box is supposed to automatically detect data or fax calls but it I wanted to force it, use *99.
