PostPosted: Mon Mar 13, 2006 4:57 pm    Post subject: Vonage box stopped acquriing telephone lines after unplug Reply with quote Back to top

I unplugged my Vonage box to untangle the power cord.

When I plug it back in the phone lines never come up. They flash green simultaneously every now and then.

I can log into the box and its setup has not changed.

I'v reset it, etc., numerous times.

My setup is as follows: Modem -->BEFW11S5 router --->Vonage RT31P2.

our location
2. Your ISP name and type (cable, DSL, wireless etc): SBC Dsl
3. Upload and download speeds 384/384
4. Modem make and model Speedstream 5360
5. Type of Vonage adapter used ie RT31P2 or PAP2 RT31P2
6. Setup of Network ie Modem---->Vonage Adapter-->PC See above
7. Issue you are experiencing ie dropped calls, choppy audio etc
8. DETAILED results from www.testyourvoip.com with a test call to Boston. Hangs my browser when I do the test.

Help!

Try unplugging the power to your modem, BEF router, and RT31P2 for a full 2 minutes...then plug in the modem, BEF, and RT31 in that order.

there are two parts to the rt31p2. the router and the phone. they're seperate. the phone part sounds fried or you used a power cord other than the one it came with. it's very important to use the power supply that came with the unit, your exact problem would happen if you used a different one. personally I think you (accidentally) switched the power supplies to the befw and rt31p2.
failing that, when you go to 192.168.15.1 with a computer plugged into the rt31p2, check what it says next to Line1 and 2 under the Status tab.

I'd like to say I switched power cords but I didn't.

There are no lines 1 and 2 under the status tab. All I see are Voice -- Router -- Local Network and when I pick voice it just says it's synchronizing services and spins forever. re re

yeah I guess it's status tab, then click voice, then you'll have line1 and 2.
sounds dead to me.

Are you sure you didn't get the power adapter wires switched around?

The BEF series routers use either 5vDC or 12vDC adapters based on which revision they are. I think the RT31P2 uses a 12vDC positive-tip adapter (could someone please verify this?) but I don't have an RT31P2 to confirm this.

For the others,
The PAP2 uses a 5vDC positive tip adapter,
The RTP300 uses a 12vDC positive tip adapter.

With so many adpaters under my desk I color code teh cords to teh equipment. That's hwo I know that I did not mix them up. Any any rate, I have checked again and they are not mixed up.

When I first got Vonage it took about a week for the damn thing to work.

I am a mortal human and do not wish to call Vonage 'help.'
