Just got my Motorola ATA today. I connected it behind the router, assigned it a static IP, opened all ports, plugged it in, and it connected in under a minute. Then I took a test phone and plugged it into the "Line 1" connector, and called a friend. Worked great.
Then, I disconnected my land-line connection from the house wiring, and connected the Motorola box to it through the Line 1 port. All of the phones are dead (no dial tone) accept for one, which cannot stay off the hook (even when the “hook” button is pressed down on the phone). The phone has a dial tone, and works fine until it gets the "hang up" tone, and finally cuts out, and stays out until I disconnect and reconnect the Motorola box to the house wiring, and the process repeats. If just one phone is connected to the device, it works fine.
Has anyone heard of this before? The house wiring works fine with the land line. |

I certainly hope you disconnected the telephone line coming from the outside of your house prior to connecting the ATA. There should be a junction box or connector at the point where the line enters that has to be diconnected.

Also, please note that just because your phone company shuts down your phone service does not mean that there is not power on your phone lines. Plugging your MTA into energized phone lines is not good for it's health. Your either going to have to unplug your phone system from the junction box outside your house (and hope that some "helpful" phone company person does not hook it back up) or disconnect the wires coming into your house. To insure that your ok unplug your MTA from your phone system and check for voltage on your phone line. You will need to remove that voltage before plugging your MTA back into your home phone line. You also, might want to retest your MTA by just plugging a phone into it to see if your MTA got fired. Good luck. |
