I've had Vonage for close to a year now - Long Island NY, 631 area code.
I just found out last night from a neighbor that on a few calls they made to my house they got someone else's number. I then found out that this has happened to a few other people in my town. Spoke to Vonage customer support (guy trying hard to hide his Indian accent) and he tells me that it has always been the case that whenever anyone calls my home, they need to prefix my number with the area code. If they don't, then it may work sometimes and other times it may not (my wife's reply was to tell them that "we may pay our bill sometimes"). I'm not 100% sure this is an area code issue or not, as the neighbor mentioned that he may have got someone with a completely different number, not the same # with a diff area code.
If this is in fact the case, then this will be the final straw, I'll be switching back to the old system. |

Also 631 area and have never had that problem and I have Vonage for 9 months now almost 10 with no troubles.
Let me guess - you did not port a number but got one from Vonage.
edited after considerable thought
need NPA/NXX you have and npa/nxx people are calling from.
It may very well be a Vonage routing problem meaning that the local telco may not recognize the Vonage exchange.
The "may work sometimes and may not work other times" I just don't buy but more info is neeeded to troubleshoot. |
