Yeah, my ftp upload is usually 25-30 KiloBytes per second. The router I got came from Vonage.com when I ordered it. Is there anyway that I can return it to get the WRT54GL?

do you know what the wrt54gl is? it's not a Voip router (it doesn't have phone ports) and Vonage has nothing to do with it.

I guess that could be an option. But do you really recommend it?

Is there nothing else I can try to remove the answer delay problem? Or is it possible to have the phone beep or something when I answer a call and its still trying to initialize the call?

Running a new router may or may not solve your problem. The difficulty is that we don't know exactly where your original problem is coming from. I was responding to your comments about setting QoS up in your WRTP54G, and your comments about wanting to FTP.

Let's set that aside for the moment.

1. Turn off the wireless network on your WRTP54G if you have it active.
2. Plug the WRTP54G into your cable modem and unplug everything from it except one, single, wired telephone.

Now, with the cable modem feeding the WRTP54G directly, and no other computers consuming bandwidth in any way, try some test calls.

If those test calls have problems, then your Internet connection has a problem, or your WRTP54G is defective. The heat problems you have with the WRTP54G make me suspicious, but suspicion is not proof.

If those test calls are fine, then plug in a single computer and, without running any bandwidth hungry applications on the computer, try some more test calls.

If those are fine, turn wireless back on (assuming you use it) and do more tests (Side question: do you run your wireless unsecured? could a neighbor be leeching off your connection? That could cause you huge problems in bandwidth).

Could there be a delay because of a cable booster? I have the same problem, but this is the only thing I haven't tried. I also loose the first caller if I get another call waiting call. Frustrating

I suspect your problems are unrelated, though your answer delay could be part of the same problem.

I would recommend you start a new thread, at least on the "dropped call on call waiting" issue. That one sounds like older firmware to me, but please start a new thread and post the technical details requested in the sticky, so we don't go off topic on the delay issue. Thanks.
