Not sure if anyone else has had same problem, but I'm convinced the Vonage-pushed WRTP54G firmware upgrade from 1.00.55 to 1.00.60 yesterday caused me to get no dial tone and "extension in use" messages on my home phone. Phone worked when plugged directly into RJ-11 on rear of Voip adapter but not over house wiring (as it did prior to 1.00.60 push).
Has anyone figured out how to block the router from receiving auto-updates from Vonage? Fortunately this happened over a weekend when I had time to troubleshoot it, but won't have the time to waste in future. Would rather receive them voluntarily vs. by force.
Thanks. |

Don't think so. If it can make calls and be "seen" from the outside world, nothing will stop it from getting updates. The area that controls that is locked by Vonage. Now, if updates were pushed by a specific protocol, and/or port number, I guess if you stuck a router in front of the Vonage device and blocked that, it may work. Seems to me though that ia risky at best. |

what if hte router is the second router in the house?
Say you have 1 router connected to the cable modem, the the Vonage connected to a port on the 1st router...which would make it unavailable to the outside network...but still should be able to get through the ports of a making/receiving calls? |

OK. Day after I managed to revert my WRTP54G unit from firmware ver 1.00.60 (auto-pushed to me by Vonage) back to functional 1.00.55, appears my unit has already again upgraded itself to 1.00.60. Lo and behold, same problem now exists -- no dial-tone on the single phone in our house regardless of phone jack used. Like others who have reported this issue, I use a single 5.8 ghz cordless base station with multiple expansion handsets. Moved into a brand new house with cat 5 wiring to all phone jacks connected to the WRTP54G device. confirmed device functioned correctly under 1.00.55. Am becoming increasingly unhappy w/ my ability to not only select the firmware that sufficiently meets my need, but works PERIOD. Considering device works w/ 1.00.55 and not 1.00.60, I'm certain it's a Voip adapter issue and no further troubleshooting is required (already spent a day of troubleshooting to arrive at this conclusion). What have others done to overcome similar issue? Thanks. |

Nope. If it can make calls, it is visible, and it can update firmware. No matter that it is behind another router, it can still be seen. |

Interesting, even if the phone adapter/router has a non routable ip?
How would Vonage know what is behind the primary router? the reason i ask is because my isp for broadband has no idea what is behind my primary dlink router....so im just putting my thoughts together here. |

The reason is because the adapter itself "phones home" and communicates with the Vonage servers. When you log in and see that "Provisioning" deal, that means it's trying to talk to it's media gateway at Vonage. No matter how you try to hide it, if it can make calls, it can get firmware. |
