PostPosted: Sat Mar 11, 2006 10:03 pm    Post subject: Caller ID Reads My Own Number...Then Dead Air... Reply with quote Back to top

Advance searched this issue but was unable to find anything. Have had the service 3 months now with no problems other than the following happened twice. When we first hooked up a few days later we received a call from our own number (as indicated on caller id) and when answered, it was dead air. Then, last night at 3:30am it happened again, alarming the whole family. Same thing happened...it was a call from our own number...dead air upon answering.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

What device? There's something called a splash ring. If it was turned on, and your phone goes offline, or if you reboot the device, when it goes back up it will ring (and may display your CID). This can be turned on by tech support for troubleshooting purposes.

Hmmm, is that charged as incoming or outgoing? Seriously, that's interesting information. Thanks.

I am using an RTP300 hooked up into an D-Link DI-524 wireless router. I have never called into tech support so I would assume (foolishly I'm sure) they did not turn on the splash you are referring to. As far as how it is charged...it's not. It shows up on all my phones CID's but never shows up online under my account information. I have four Uniden DCT646's I got at Home Depot as a set. I tried powering down my routers and cable modem to see what would happen after powering them back up....and nothing...business as usual with no splash ring.

Thank you for your interest.

well, here's the test. Unplug your device from power. Power it back up, when it finally gets a phone light (dial tone) does it ring once? I am not talking about the Call Fwd ring splash, there is a Ring Splash on initial register setting on the Vonage side that can be turned on or off.

Powered down the RTP300 and then powered it back up...same thing...no ring...

Thanks again for the help. If it happens again, I guess I will try the tech support route...

I appreciate the input.

since this thread is pretty much over, I'd like more information on that ring splash setting datahazard. does Vonage have settings that aren't in the firmware? I'm assuming it wasn't something added after 3.1.3(LS) (pap2).

There are about 40-60 settings that can be changed on any given device that you can't see. I know that the ringsplash is a setting on the IP8100, but I'm pretty sure its on all of the devices.

I don't use Vonage, I have a pap2 and can see every single setting on it. do you think anyone can see Cfwd Ring Splash Len or Cblk Ring Splash Len? especially considering Vonage disables the web interface on the pap2 completely?
