Just got a RT31P2 from vonage.. will use it to travel and also behind a WRT54g wireless router
need help with 2 issues:
1) how do I set up the RT31P2 to work with my existing WRT54G..tried to just plug it in an empty ethernet at the wireless router..no dial tone
2) do I need to take the RT31P2 with me overseas to use Vonage? I do have another RT31P2 from a cancelled Vonage line...is my new number embebbed inside the router?
pls help |

Your new number is part of an xml configuration file on your new RT31P2 that gets downloaded the first time you connect.
Is your existing router a wrt54G, or WRTP54G?
And yes, the only way to use Vonage is to have the device, so You're gonna need it wherever you want to use it. |

bosterman:
Connect RT31P2 to a PC via ethernet cable, open IE and type 192.168.15.1. Type "admin" for both usename and password to enter Linksys config.
On the Basic Setup page, the second section will be the "Router IP" section and will have the IP address to typed to enter the web admin. Change the "15" to a "20", save settings and pull power cable from the RT31P2. It should configure and phone 1 will lite up, and you should have internet thru it once you connect the "internet" port to on of the LAN ports on the WRT.
Reply back with questions or concerns. |

If he has a WRT54G, then he doesn't need to do that. The linksys devices come preconfigured as 192.168.1.1, and the Vonage linksys ones are set at 192.168.15.1. This was the precise reason for that choice, so this change wouldn't have to be made. My answer would be different if he had a WRTP54G or WRT54GP2 |

Couple of questions, if you plug a PC in to the Vonage router, does that PC have internet access? also, are you plugged from an Ethernet port on your WRT54G into the INTERNET (WAN) port on your RTP300?
If the answer to both of those questions is yes, from the PC connected to the Vonage router, go to http://192.168.15.1, login with the un/pw admin/admin (both the username and password are admin). go to the status page, and click router status. Make sure all the information in there is correct (check it against a computer connected directly to the Wireless router, aside from the IP address, they should have pretty much the same information. Paste the Router Status here, also paste the Voice Status page, as it may be helpful. |

the answer to both questions is yes: typed 192.18.15.1 and got into status page... but here is my problem...when I got back to computer connected to wireless router and I type 192.168.1.1 (I guess WRT54G address) I got nothing,,,although there is internet connection and wireless work... I had a hd replacement a few months ago and I am not sure I run the WRT54G..could it be that it that the preconfigured is running? thank you for your help |

bellsouth.net, but I is working now !!! I typed the right dns address (both) and done...thank you all for your help, specially datahazard.. It is amazing to me that neither Linksys nor Vonage could help me set it properly since both suggested that the Vonage router should go as main one....which will be of no use to me to travel with it... tks again |
