PostPosted: Wed Apr 21, 2004 8:47 am    Post subject: Question on Home wiring Reply with quote Back to top

My Current telephone line comes from RCN (was my Inernet
provider & is my Telephone Provider) thru a
telco box on the outside of my house, From the telco box into
my house & is terminated on the ceiling on 2 posts (Red & Green wire)
(older house 60+ years)
there are 2 other posts that have other (Red & Green) that feed
the rest of the house (there is 4 other telephones in the house)
I think all I need to wire is the Motorola adapter to the 1st 2 posts
that come from outside?? (Earthlink/Comcast in now my Internet provider
4/1/04.
The transfer is expected today 4/21/04 & i have a sick feeling in my stomach I will be without a telephone in the house.

Thanks Dick

Not sure what you mean by posts....

Your phone are all already wired to each other, typically.

So all you should need to do is disconnect the wires from the street, the plug your Vonage ATA into a wall outlet instead of a phone and you should be all set.

Thanks for replying
The post (there are 4 of them) are on the ceiling of the basement and are
where the telephone connections come in from the street & go out thru the house..the house is 60 + years old

OK... I think I know the system you have...

When you say there are two other posts, do you mean that there are more wires coming into the house that terminate in posts?

No there are only a pair (Red & Green) coming in from the outside that is connected to the 1st post/terminal

OK... I think I understand and I'm confident you won't have to do much.

Just disconnect those two from the outside, and then instead of pluggin a phone into the ATA, using the same jack on the ATA, just plug it into a wall outlet.

It's that easy.

Thanks Plyons, The light finally went on for me Over the weekend, rather than having a wall outlet I needed to wire up a 'Wall Outlet' that connected all the lines in the house (3) and that went to the ATA for the final connection. All the Phones are now active, and the wife is happy, enough said. Thanks
