I have cable broadband service and I want to use Vonage small business phone service to provide 4 lines with fax, computer and telephone capabilities thru the (vonage) adaptors to my panasonic phone system. Does anyone know how to accomplish this and is it dependable? |

you have asked a loaded question with almost no information for us to answer it.
It really depends almost 100% on your cable broadband. Because it converts your voice into data packets and sends them over the internet, it draws from your bandwidth. But b/c a phone call sends data both ways, both your upload and download bandwidth will be important. Most cable services have plenty of download so that's not a problem. But the default setting is 90kbps for a high quality phone call. So multiply 90 x 4 and you'll get 360 kbps just for phone calls or faxes if all 4 lines are being used at the same time. Moreover, if you decide to do any 3 way calling, it will double the bandwidth to 720 kbps if you are running 3 way calling on all 4 lines etc. So you can see the upload bandwidth will go up very quickly.
But the problem is we do not have any information on your current connection. Likewise, you need to go to testyourvoip.com and run a test to boston and post the detailed results here. This test will give us a good look at the quality of your connection. But also run a speed test and post it here.
You can certainly adjust your call bandwidth, they have 30, 50, and 90 kbps and I use the 50. 90 is overkill and it limits what I can do on the internet then etc.
I hope this helps, mundy5 |
