I am of the opinion that the main Vonage Forum has gotten too big & with 185 pages of content it can be somewhat overwhelming to newbie’s, not to mention the occasional resurrected 3 year old post.
So I am considering starting a forum archive for all post that are six months old and older (since the last post). This forum would be locked to new posts.
It would appear directly under the current Vonage forum.
Your thoughts please. |

I think 6 months is, if anything, long. Sounds good to me.
I never look at anything but the first page or two anyway, but I've been around a while.
You also may want to start a section like "Frequent Topics" and take a thread or two that has the best information on each (choppy audio, etc), or we can develop a "here's a theoretical scenario, how do we walk through fixing it", as kind of a "living FAQ". |

Thanks Nate, I will see if my tools will allow that. |

I like the idea of archiving the old posts, along with creating a FAQ page (probably just a post or two containing links to the hot topics of old, like Natehoy said.) I'd hate to lose the info, as there are sometimes obscure problems which people haven't hit much, or an old solution which still works well. Yeah, 185 pages sounds like an awful lot of messages to wade through. I think I only browse through the first 5 or so unless I'm searching for something. |

Of course, I think of something immediately after hitting Submit, and this forum doesn't have an edit button, so... I'm thinking somewhere prominant, we should come up with an "Interested in Vonage?, check these things first..." type message...explaining the basics, having people test their connections FIRST, maybe even touch on 2.4Ghz phones. I think we've all seen a few questions which come up VERY frequently. Not quite sure how to direct the new/potential users towards it, but I think it would help. |
