When I see this and look at the actual counties that Vonage has listed it tells me that Vonage is pushing for the areas where their service is used the most.

In Ohio, where I live just 3 counties have E911. Washington has one. Pennsylvania has one. Kentucky has 0.

I understand it's a challenge to get E911 on board for everyone and I think Vonage has done a pretty good job just to provide some type of 911 service for everyone, but I think they are inflating their numbers by hitting high volume areas of their service.

Hope they get around to the rest of us. Smile

I think it's fair to say that they are prioritizing E911 by locations where they have more customers, but that's just logical. "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few."

Whether their goal is a number to publish or the safety of as many of their subscribers as possible, it all boils down to E911 for the largest customer bases first.

And, agreed, I hope they get around to us someday. (grin)

More populous areas might also have the staff at the PSAP and the local phone company available to handle the integration and/or the PSAP may have newer equipment that makes the integration possible or at least go more smoothly.

This is not necessarily true. The counties listed in Ohio are not close to being the most populated The three counties may have a combined population of 100,000. There are 88 counties in Ohio and only 4 counties have E911. So , I would agree that Vonage is over inflating their numbers. None of the major metroploitian areas have E911.

That really is a poor choice of words on my part. I guess what I'm trying to say that while they have 65% of their customers covered it really doesn't speak to the area of coverage.

This is true. Of course, there are a lot of areas they don't have numbers in at all, and you would expect that they couldn't do E911 in those areas, so covering those areas would be useless.

Hmm. I need to ask everyone overseas to set up their E911 mailing addresses temporarily in Topsham, Maine.

I'd be in the biggest Vonage customer group of all, and my E911 would be set up in a matter of weeks! Muhahahahaha!! Twisted Evil

The issue comes down to how disorganised and hodge-podge the 911 system of the US is structured. Literally, hundreds of different types of equipment in use, no standards whatsoever....and you're trying to make one system (Vonage's Voip) work properly with all of them. It's not going to be an easy task. I'm thinking that some areas of the US probably don't even have E911 with land-line phones, let alone Voip.
