Has anyone had luck using the Voip adapter behind another router? I find this POS from Linksys keeps dropping connections.

Thanks!

I have my WRTP54G (identical to the RTP300, except the WRTP54G has wireless) behind my WRT54G V4, and I've never had the slightest problem.

Which version of the WRT54GS do you have, and what firmware version are you on?

I'm willing to bet you've either got something configured strangely, or are having ISP issues. The WRT54GS has been a solid router for me. I have ~20 of them in the field and they just work. Granted, I'm running the older ones with 3rd party firmware on them, but for the most part, I just plug them in, configure them, and that's the last time I touch them.

I don't have a problem with the Vonage router working behind my WRT54GS (v1.1 w/BIOS v4.70.6). Seems to work well.

I was wondering if there were any problems associated with the automatic BIOS updates and such working in this configuration.

Okay, I'm confused... your first post made it sound like you were having problems... now you're saying it works well? It can't be both!

No problems whatsoever with the Vonage adapter living behind a WRT54GS router. If anything, it's the preferred way to use Vonage. While you're at it, consider setting QoS up for your connection, entering the MAC address of the RTP300 into the QoS table and giving it the highest priority... that'll give you better call quality when your internet connection gets a bit busy.

My apologies if I was confusing. I could have worded the request better.

Are there any issues with Vonage not being able to push firmware updates?

Thanks for your patience!

You need to change the LAN IP address of one of them.

General rule: If the PHONE light lights up and the Vonage phone works, you will be able to get firmware updates.

You have things wired like this, with the "Primary Router" being the WRT54GS and the "Vonage Router" being the RTP300, right?

If so, it should work fine. No need to forward ANY ports to the RTP300.

If you upgrade your WRT54GS to HyperWRT Thibor aftermarket firmware ( http://www.thibor.co.uk/ ) you can get extras like Static DHCP, which allows you to give the RTP300 the same IP address every time, which is handy. But that's just a "nice to have", the stock firmware in your version of the WRT54GS works very well.

This is exactly how I have it setup and I do think it improved my Vonage quality.

I was thinking of upgrading the firmware of my GS to an aftermarket but for now I just forced a static IP address into the Vonage adapter. So the same affect is achieved.

Thank you for all your help. You probably facilitated me keeping my Vonage service.

I do wish I could get a number in Alaska an Korea though! haha

Thanks again!
