You certainly don't need two modems.

You didn't say which router is connected to the modem. But that router should be set to have its DHCP server function enabled. The 2nd router should be set to be asking for its IP address from the first router.

You'll need two routers because each router only supports 2 lines. You should be able have a router directly attached to your ISP modem/gateway and then the Vonage routers into that main router. That would be the easiest setup.

I have the one router hooked up directly into the modem
the other one will have the internet from the other router. But for some reason it isnt registering on the green lights on internet.
just ethernet and also it isnt reconizing the internet from the first

Not sure why the second router isnt wanting to pick up the first?

So how do you have the second router set to connect to the internet ... DHCP, PPPoE? It should be DHCP.

And the DHCP server in the first router must be enabled so that it will be willing to provide an IP address to the second router when requested.

I wish I knew what DHCP meant
how do you reconfigure the first router to DHCp enabled?

DHCP is Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. It is a protocol to allow for the dynamic assignment of IP addresses on a network.

So, the router you have connected to your modem is obviously properly configured with respect to getting an IP address from your ISP (since it is working). That is on the "WAN (wide area network)side" of the router. The router then has some number (probably 4) LAN ports; that is your local network.

So the second router would be connected to one of those LAN ports. You then want to set the second router to request an IP address from the first router. So you want to set it to what it would call Dynamic or DHCP mode. Then, for that to work, you need to be sure the first router has its internal DHCP server (the function that allows it to supply IP addresses to devices connected on its LAN ports) enabled.

I hope that helps some.

But if it doesn't, please indicate which router is connected to the modem.
