I got my firmware upgrade to "Voice Version: 3.1.3(LI)", I still had some trouble so I decided to change my phone number that I dial to the 732 area code, I made an assumption, that the headquarters for Vonage, must have good phone service Smile, and voila, the calls seems to be working "better". I added *99 to the prefix, and *70 to disable call waiting. I also turned off dial tone detection, and where it picked up the phone to see if it was in use. I'll see what happens the rest of this week. The key "call" I'm looking for is that one where it upgrades my DirecTV DVR receiver to the latest 6.2 code.

Like many of you I ran into the problem with Tivo not working with Vonage. Of course using a network connection is the fix (Airport from but I didn't feel like paying $120+ for the adapeter & card, opening up the Tivo, and the 2 week delivery wait.

Here is some information how I got it working. I have a Series 1 Philips with a PAP2 Vonage adapter.

How I got it working:
1. On the Vonage web site set Vonage voice quality to 90
2. On the Vonage web site set Call Waiting to off
3. Call Vonage and get them to do 2 things:
a) turn ECHO OFF (first time I called I got someone who didn't know what I was talking about and said that it would impact my voice calls - it didn't - and when I called back I got someone who knew what to do).
b) Ask them to set the packet size to 30 (0.030).
4. Reset the Vonage PAP2 device
5. On the Tivo setup be sure "Dial Tone Detection" and "Phone Available Detection" are both turned off.
6. I used my regular Tivo number: (212) 277-3895
I was, probably, over the top and you can probably turn on call waiting, and reduce quality for voice. Test and see what suits you.

Here is my experience which hopefully will help you:
1. The prefix numbers didn't work on my Tivo Series 1 e.g. ,#3xx etc (every time I tried Tivo said the modem was unavailable)
2. Call Vonage late at night to avoid a long wait time
3. You'll need a simple phone splitter (for $2-3) which splits the Vonage line into two for your phone and tivo.
4. While its early days, the reliability seems less than perfect, so it may take a few calls get all of the information (not a big deal if you only need the guides).
5. There is no Beta firmware for the PAP2 adapter.

That's it.

I need help setting up a wireless router with my Series 2 DVR...
what's confusing me is that the linksys unit I got in my Vonage account is a router, but not wireless...

So I'm assuming that I need a wireless network adapter hooked into the USB of my series 2 dvr and then I need a wireless router that hooks into one of the ethernet slot of the linksys router I got with my Vonage packet.

The wireless network adapter will talk to the wireless router, and then the wireless router will be hooked into an ethernet port of my linksys router to connect it all together..

Is this right?

Yes, you are correct. You will need to configure your wireless router so that it acting as a simple access point (No DHCP, no NAT).

You could probably use a wireless bridge, but a router probably doesn't cost much more and might be useful in the future.

After reading more, I started to think it would be the other way around... That the wireless router would hook up to my comcast internet connection and then the linksys router I got with my Vonage package would hook into that....

Or was I right the first time

I have been reading this forum and it is great to get my Directv Tivo working.

I have the DTV DVR R10 Series recorder

Here is what I did. I couldn't and still can't get it to work with RCA Wireless Modem Jacks. I have the RCA RC930. I am going to try them again in a few weeks.

I tried everything here and nothing worked. I went to My account and Ordered the Fax Line. I then Lowered My Bandwidth to 30 kpbs. I entered the ,#034 prefix and it worked all 3 times I tried it without even disabling Call Waiting. I went back in and disabled Call waiting just for the Heck of it to be sure.

I didn't have to disable call waiting on the Vonage website. Just in the Phone Setup.

Thanks for all the help and I hope everyone here has success doing this.

PS. I tried to raise the Bandwidth to 50 kpbs while I was typing this and it didn't work. The 30 kpbs didn't hurt my Voice quality on my regular Phone calls at all. Still better than the Phone company.
