I've been pouring through this site for the past couple of days to try to resolve my quirky problem. Here is my current setup:

westell 2200 dsl modem -->RT31P2-->DI-514

My modem refuses to be set to bridge mode, so I've had to play around to get things to work - more or less. The phone is working, no problems with calls at all, but my internet is giving me fits. There are certain websites I can't access and certain features on certain website that always time out when I try to use them (for example, I can't use the spellcheck feature on this site).

I'm sure it has something to do with my settings on everything, but I've exhausted my limited tech knowledge and I am beginning to fear I just need to get a new modem.

To get things to work at all, I have the RT31P2 set to what I think are the default settings. It obtains an IP automatically and will not function when set to PPPoE.

The wirless is currently set to Dynamic IP address.

I've read a few things around here about setting up a similar network, but searching tonight I cannot find them. I think one of the things I need to do is change the settings on the DI-514, but I can't remember how I am supposed to do that.

Of course, all of this may be a mute point the real issue is needing a new modem. FYI - I have tried to reset the modem MULTIPLE times and it won't go back to factory defaults. This occured after I updated it's firmware to the latest version.

Any help would be much appreciated.

aleigh,

How are you devices connected. Please give us the ports etc.

It should be:

westell modem ethernet port -> ethernet port of rt31p2. port 1 -> port 1 of DI-514.

I don't know where you computer is connected? Is it connected to the rt31p2 or the di-514?

The DI-514 should be similar to my DI-524. I believe you need to connect a computer to it and type in http://192.168.1.1

Then you will want to login and make all the necessary changes.

I recommend that you change it into an access point. See my post here:

I believe the main reason why you are having problems with the DI-514 is b/c it has the same IP address as your westell modem and it's probably causing a serious conflict. I would change the DI-514 to one that works with the rt31p2. See my post for suggested IP address.

Thanks for the reply - my current configuration is this:

westell ethernet --> "internet" port of rt31p2; port 1 --> WAN port of D-514.

I knew that I should set up the DI-514 as an access point, but forgot to bookmark the thread. Thanks for providing the link.

My desktop is connected to the rt31p2 via port 2. My laptop is wireless.

Oh, and the IP addresses for my DI-514 and Westell aren't exactly the same, but maybe there is still some conflict. The modem is 192.168.0.1 and the DI-514 is 192.168.1.1. I generally get by troubleshooting on my own, but I don't pretend to know a helluva lot.

I'll follow your directions and check back once I get it set up. I still think there may be a problem with the modem because even when I isolated it, it refused to be set to bridge mode. But I'll let you know.
