I've had issues with cable modems causing throughput problems in the past. Comcrap originally shipped me an RCA cable modem (can't remember the exact model), and I had difficulty streaming video over it. After MANY phone calls and techs showing up, the one tech finally humored me and temporarily put on a Terayon modem on the connection... instant success. For some reason, about 2 years later Comcrap suddenly showed up at the door one day & wanted to swap out the Terayon with an RCA, which I wasn't real fond of, BUT, it's held up so far (5 month & counting). The strange part is that I have a Comcast-provided, Comcast-labelled SMC modem which has been there the whole time & Comcast hasn't bothered with it. The SMC has a built-in router which crashed & burned within the first 3 hours of using it, so it's being run strictly in bridge mode now, but it's worked fine otherwise. |
