http://images.lunarpages.com/policy.jpg

TIP: Discovered by setting the above policy using the MAC address of my Vonage phone into my Linksys wireless router I can now automatically block unwanted calls late at night...

BTW: This Access Restriction policy basically blocks all internet traffic for the specific Vonage MAC Address including outbound calls as well.

If a call is currently in progress when the policy takes effect, the call continues as normal but once ended no further inbound/outbound calls can be placed.

Any call you didn't get between the blocked times due to the access restriction can always be retrieved later from Vonage Voicemail. Wink

I like it, that's a really good idea. The only problem I have with it, and why I won't do it, is because it's a blanket solution. If you could curtail that to no incoming, only outgoing, THAT would be something. But I still think it's a good idea if you want to block it all.

If anything, it'll prevent my kids from sneaking phone calls to their friends after midnight. Until they figure out that a call made before 12:00AM isn't affected by the policy! Eek

Well, with that in mind, I'd say that's an AWESOME solution! Very Happy

You've probably thought of this already, but just in case you haven't....Keep in mind that you don't have easy access to a phone in the case of an emergency.

I know how am at least, and and while I'm sitting at my computer right now, I'm sure I would remember this and use my cell.

But if at 2am when waking (or being woke) from a dead sleep, I'm not so sure that I would and that delay could be important, especially when calling 911 or some other kind of emergency line.

Pretty nifty. If your Vonage device is also your main router, does it interfere with internet access? I assume not, but you know about assumptions...

seems like a safer thing to do would be to alter your Vonage settings to transfer directly to voicemail without ringing. the form on the Vonage site sets the 'immediate' value as a '1', but if you're handy with php or similar, it's easy enough to write your own scripts to set the value to zero. then set up a cron job to turn off all calls at a certain time in the evening, then restore voicemail to the correct number of rings in the morn.

hmmm. yeah - your idea is easier, but i worry about not being able to make outgoing calls.

The problems with using immediate voicemail, though, are that it isn't automatic and you may have trouble undoing it. Unfortunately, the Vonage dashboard is sometimes unreliable. It would be pretty frustrating to be unable to tell Voicemail to start letting calls come through.
