i setup the rtp300 router (btw nice router) and have one computer hooked up to one of the routers ports, the computer can access the internet, but when i plug a phone into line 1 i get no dial tone. i have tried rebooting the modem and router, leting the modem come up completely then pluging in the router. ive tried a few differnet phones, but no luck on any of them.

cable modem service thru tampa bay timerwarner roadrunner
Vontage web site sez im an active member (since feb 27th) i am also wondering why they start the service before i have service?

i tried calling tech support, i think they said that it was an outage and sonthing about technicians, but i really could uderstand very little of what the man said as i dont speak idian.

im thinking that the router can't get authorization from the server for some reason. has anyone else run into this problem? if so did it get resolved?

thanks in advance

Jim

heh, if that first suggestion wasn't the miracle fix it sounded like, here are some questions.
this is the third reference I've seen to a new customer not being able to get service. it sounds like Vonage is having issues with new devices being provisioned correctly. it seems pretty obvious you ordered service directly from Vonage, which is why you have been a member since feb 27th. if not, then that is odd.
you can access the router at http://192.168.15.1 go under Status and copy what it says for Line1 and Line2 status (taking out sensitive info if needed)
I assume phone1 and phone2 lights on the router are not lit, correct?
unfortunately I don't think anyone is going to be able to help you as it's likely a Vonage issue with new customers...

reebok,
i think your right about it being on vonage's end

router: under status>Voice
it reads:

Provisioning Status: Provisioning succeeded
line 1 status:
Registration Status:
Call1 Status: idle
Call2 Status: NA
line 2 status:
Registration Status:
Call1 Status: idle
Call2 Status: NA

phone 1 and pohone 2 lites on router are not lit

i did order router from Vonage direct. just did think it fair to charge for service when no service has yet been provided.

thanks for you input Smile

I agree, but that's the way it's always been. it really becomes an issue if someone wants to cancel within X days but has to pay a termination fee even though they didn't have the device for the majority of the time.
it should have a phone number next to line 1. if it doesn't then there is no number assigned to the device, and thus you can't do anything with it.
