so, with that said, not sure where to go to turn off DNS Proxy.... it occurs to me entering DNS server numbers manually into rt31p2 may actually accomplish the disabling of DNS proxy since i don't have a tick on/off option... so will try that out and see what happens. thanks |

actually, your local PC is already doing its own DNS. If it was using a proxy, it would show as "192.168.15.1" as your DNS server. So it's not a DNS proxy issue... |

have disabled "block anonymous internet requests"
so i should remove the dns numbers i put in? or would it not really make any difference if the pc is already doing it?
i really appreciate your help... i can't bear the thought of dealing with customer non-service again. |

If the PC already has the DNS numbers directly, then the setting would have no effect. You can safely ignore my advice. |

according to local area connection properties - tcp/ip properties, those numbers are in the fields and ticked to be used by the pc. i assume then i can safely remove them from the rt31p2.
and i have come to the conclusion that anyone who ignores your advice does so at their own risk... you da man.
i'm gonna give this a couple-four days and see what unfolds. will report back as the story develops....

Sounds like you have already bypassed the DHCP proxy by manually specifying DNS servers on each client. Clumsy, but it works.
Don't know why the connection would be failing like that, though. That's a bizarre one. |

just an update for you...
since original post, i have not dropped a call nor lost internet a single time.
however all is not sweetness and joy...
sometime yesterday through mid-day today, calling my phone got one an ear full of static, instead of my usual home answering machine message. i'm sure the message was in there, just under all the noise. (vonage voice mail is back up, my home machine is always on... even if i'm home.)
so just for fun, i went in and enabled voice qos at 256, my advertised upload speed, and enabled port based qos, with port 1 (the only one used) at high priority, flow control disabled and ingress rate limit disabled, just as an effort to try to address the noise and maybe if i was lucky improve overall quality in the tests. no real change in the test results - i'm still between a crappy cell phone call and a good cell phone call - but the static went away. i'm thinking it had more to do with the reboot when settings were saved, but i wanted to pass this on for your reflection. |

oops, spoke too soon... figures...
my original problem has returned.... with only the rt31p2 in line between modem and computer, i have again come home or awakened in the morning to find the phone light out and no internet. reboot. work on the computer, browse some websites, suddenly i can't get to any websites, and within a minute or two, phone light goes out on rt31p2 and i have to reboot again. three times yesterday, twice so far this morning and i've not even been at it an hour yet.
i have just about reached my limit with vonage...
** i rebooted before i started writing this post... before i could hit "submit" it died again, had to reboot to post this... |
