I'm very new to Vonage and trying to get through the installation process. Is anyone here connected to Vonage phone service using a Motorola SBV4200 cable modem? Do I have to link the Linksys RTP300 router through this cable modem?

Yes. The best way to is connect the cable modem to the RTP's Internet port with an Ethernet cable, then connect your computer to one of the other ports on thr RTP with another Ethernet cable. I DO NOT recommend using any USB cable to connect anything. That's a crappy way to connect things.

Well, I'm using the Motorola SB5120 cable modem. You will need to hook the ethernet port of your Vonage Linksys router to the ethernet port of your Motorola cable modem, then hook your computer(s) to the Vonage router, UNLESS your Moto cable modem has more than one LAN port (which would make it a router). If that is the case, I would hook all your computers/printers/whatever to the Moto and only hook your phone(s) to the Vonage Router.

Sorry, I don't know anything about your cable modem specifically, but I'm sure it's similar to mine...

WOAH, that's a VoIP-enabled cable modem. Cool, never saw one before. Is that from an ISP, or did you buy that? I think if nothing is connected to it phone-wise, and no service is configured on it for voice, then you should be able to do what I said earlier. If you are using that for an ISP voice solution, I'm not sure how the two would interact.

Oooh! I see your cable modem already has the phone ports? Or am I wrong about that?

The SBV4200 Voip cable modem came from RoadRunner when I got cable installed. I just don't want to have to hook up unnecessary routers if I don't have to. I've got to read into this a little more. Not sure what to do here.

The modem will NOT work with Vonage, so you will have to use the RTP.
