I am trying to help my mother setup her Vonage service throughout her house. Unfortunately she's in Virginia and I am in Florida, which makes things a little more difficult.
She has Broadband Internet through a cable provider so her phone service is completely disconnected now. She is using a Linksys RTP300 with just one line enabled.
I know that all she needs to do is to disconnect the wires coming from the phone company to her house (and then connect the RTP300 to any outlet), but I wanted to double check the setup before I ask her to do anything.

I believe the thick black wire at the bottom is what comes from the phone company, so I was going to recommend she disconnects the four wires that go to the top section. GREEN from the top left, RED top right, BLACK bottom left and YELOW bottom right, but leaving all other wires (blue/blue white which eventually go up, and black/yellow/red/green which go down) connected.
Would that be the best way?
Thanks for all your help. |

Yes. I must admit, though, that I'm a bit concerned about the rest of that wiring. The wires going down appear to have the red-green pair hooked to the phone company's yellow-black pair and vice-versa. Likewise, the blue-blue/white going up seem to be connected to the POTS yellow-black, which is not standard. However, your procedure should get the POTS connection out of the picture without changing anything else, and that should work. |

Terrific!
Tell your Mom to tape up those POTS wires and label them, in case she ever wants to re-establish landline service. |

aren't the four bolt heads in the middle actually fuses? i've seen some setup's where they are. if so wouldn't it work just to remove them... and them put the Voip warning card inside the box....maybe this could be a simple solution for some of our wiring challanged posts |
