I have Clearwire as my ISP and located in Killeen, Texas. Upload and download speeds this morning are very low (56 Kbps up and 453 down). However, yesterday I had upload speeds over 220Kbps and there was still a problem with a loud noise coming across the phone line at various intervals.
Modem is Clearwire supplied (all five lights are on indicating the best connection). Adaptor is RT31P2.
I hooked up to Clearwire earlier this week and, after the fact, read where Clearwire had issues with Vonage. Don't know if this has been resolved and if Clearwire is trying to block my Vonage connection. |

I suspect that if they were trying to block your service, they'd succeed completely. Please post the details listed in the sticky post at the top of the forum. |

Line noise is almost always an analog issue when it comes to VoIP... Data transmission problems result in choppy or robotic sounding audio. I've worked with quite a few different Voip adapters and had some of them be terribly noisy (RT31P2), while others were dead silent (RTP300, PAP2). Indoor wiring and phones also can play a large factor in this. Line noise can be on the other end as well, especially when calling some of the remote parts of the world where some very old (and often hacked-together) phone equipment still runs things.
Could you provide a bit more info on what sort of noise you're experiencing? It might be something that's easily fixed. |
